ADULT BIRD TRIPS
Chief Park Naturalist Tom Sheppard will be leading the following bird trips. They will leave from the Hunterdon County Arboretum, located at 1020 Route 31 in Clinton Township.

Sheppard focuses on helping all participants identify birds and teaches them about interesting characteristics of each species. Additionally he will point out natural history information about the areas the group is visiting. Bring a lunch, as stops are not guaranteed. Bring binoculars or a spotting scope; a limited number of binoculars are available for loan. Designed for adults, but mature youths under 18 can contact Tom for approval. Transportation is by County Park vans. Trips meet and end at the County Arboretum. Recommended for any interested birder at all levels of ability, unless otherwise stated.

BARNEGAT LIGHT, Saturday, January 7, 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, $25
A great winter birding spot, with lots of sea ducks, gulls, and winter shorebirds. Dress warmly; a rigorous two miles of walking on the beach and rock jetty is required. Our last stop will be to watch for hunting Northern Harriers and other surprises over nearby salt marshes.

EAGLE WATCH, Saturday, February 4, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, $25
The Bald Eagle may be off the federal endangered species list, but it is still a grand bird to see! This trip will go where the eagles are, most likely along the Upper Delaware in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and/or New York State. Winter finches, waterfowl, Golden Eagle, and other species may also be seen. Dress in layers for extreme cold.

Registration for the program is required and is first come, first served; space is limited. For a registration form download one from co.hunterdon.nj.us click on “Parks & Recreation.” For more information call 908-782-1158.
